Abstract
Tsutsugamushi disease is an acute febrile illness caused by Rickettsia tsutsugamushi and this rickettsia is inoculated into humans during the bite by a chigger. It is characterized by a of agglutinins against the OX-K strains of patients of
Proteus
bacillus.
Nine cases of Tsutsugamushi disease were diagnosed by indirect immunofluorescent antibody test and clinical findings from October, 1991 till November, 1991 in Chung-Ang University hospital. Among 9 patients, 4 cases showed abnormal chest
radiologic
findings, i. e., increased interstitial markings in 3 cases and pleural effusion in 2 ones. In one case, Tsutsugamushi antibody was detected in pleural fluid.
We think that acute febrile illness combined with abnormal chest findings and skin lesions needs detailed physical examination and more concern on tsutsugamushi disease, because misdiagnosis and maltreatment can cause increased mortality and
complications.
